END OF COURSE TESTING UPDATE FOR H.S. FRESHMEN AND PARENTS
Public schools across Texas are in the midst of major changes to the state assessment system. Students entering high school this year will no longer take the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test, but instead will take the EOC assessments for selected courses. A list of these courses was provided to you and your child at freshman orientation.

Legislation was enacted stating that a child’s grade on the EOC would count 15% towards their final grade for the course.
Commissioner of Education Robert Scott has recently notified local districts that he was giving them the flexibility to defer for one year only, implementation of this 15% requirement.

On March 20, 2012, the San Perlita ISD Board of Trustees took action to use the flexibility of this one year deferment. What this means to you and your child is the following:

• For the 2011-2012 school year only, your child’s grade on the EOC tests will NOT count towards his/her final grade for the course.
• Please be reminded that there is still a graduation requirement in effect- students must still meet a minimum standard and cumulative score for EOC tests taken in a given subject.

For any questions regarding EOC assessments, graduation requirements, or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact the principal’s office at 248-5250 or the superintendent's office at 248-5563.

**Si tienen preguntas sobre los examenes de final del año, requisitos para graduación o cualquier otra cosa, por favor de llamar a la oficina del director al 248-5250, o a la oficina del superintendiente al 248-5563.
